Hors-RP:

The "End of me" was a small inn, more of a bar with two rooms for rent, which most people tried to ignore, the owner asked no question whatsoever to who, where, what and why people ended up there, while this was just what some were looking for, others found this to be a good way to attract all kinds of criminals. Rarely, if at all, visited by any kind of authority, the little bar still had a reputation for being a quiet place where you rarely saw any kind of trouble. Hadrian opened the now familiar door and entered. He smiled as his entrance caused everyone to stare at him, after all he wore a long leather cloak because of the heavy rain outside and this gave him quite a shady appearance. The young, well, young for an elf anyway, ex-knight took off said cloak with one hand and placed it on one of the hooks near the door, revealing himself to the owner and the two or three other persons present within the building.

Hadrian! How are you doing? Rejoined the knights yet?

The heavy laugh that followed the owner's exclamation brought the tension down a bit, after all most people who even knew this place were no knight-lovers, but then again, a friend of the owner was everyone's friend. As for Hadrian, he was used to the man's jests by now and simply smiled as he thought the man's beard looked like waves when he laughed. Taking a seat, the young half-elf let his bags touch the ground beside him, which gave a slight metallic sound, and took a hold of the bottle his old friend, the owner, gave him.

Well, Jack, for one I still haven't learned how to keep my money to myself! A drink to anyone who crosses your door tonight on me, including the gentlemen already sitting of course!

Jack smiled under his heavy beard, in over ten years of owning the "End of me" he never saw anyone as good as Hadrian with making friends with everyone at once. The roars of three of the four tenants confirmed Hadrian had done the right thing to befriend everyone. The fourth man barely spoke at all since he came in and, frankly, that was not exactly unusual in this place. The man grabbed one of his barrels of liquor and prepared one mug of it for each of his customers.

Meanwhile, Hadrian was drinking the wine he had left here a few years back during a contract as bodyguard for a few merchants going through. They didn't want to "Risk their precious cargo" going into the "pub" and so sent Hadrian to give a few crates of wine to Jack. They became friends quickly and the young half-elf knew there was always a bed and a bottle waiting for him here. Slowly, the atmosphere went back to normal as people finished their mugs and stopped worrying about knights of any kind. The only one who didn't touch his mug was a man in the eastern corner, but for all Hadrian knew he could have been asleep what with the heavy shadows there. The door flew open just as he was about to ask Jack if business was doing well, which had everyone turn. Newcomers to the inn always brought some tension, but most of the time it was simply someone who got lost or one of the nobodies who thought hanging out in the end of me would eventually lead to an adventure.

Aldarik absolutely had to leave the kingdom of Quetaïn, to flee Miltram Al'kerpam's guards and the order's knights. He had to choose between fleeing east of Enetari or to the west side of the kingdom. The decision was difficult, he had hesitated for a long time before being convinced by a trader. The man had planned to go to the West to trade with the Elves - the east part was far too dangerous according to him. To go on an adventure against wolves, nightmare creatures, or take the long soil road that led to the heart of the elven kingdom ?
He had less chances to meet guards in the East, but he had to survive. What would be better than to find hospitality in the elven lands? He could buy new weapons at their blacksmiths and in the renowned armorers. So he had chosen to follow the trader. They had met in an inn, that was where  the young man had met Teinakh, the cartographer with whom he had discussed for hours. Ulgor -for it was the trader's name- had sold some products to Aldarik, before this one asked him if he could come with him to Enetari.

They talked a few minutes and the old trader had accepted.

They had travelled in a poor cart. Ulgor had driven the horses while Aldarik had looked at the horizon. They didn't talk. No words had been exchanged from when they woke-up until they stopped for the night. They had only spoken to decide on where to stop and on meals to prepare.
That was an oppressive atmosphere, reminding to the young man that he was a fugitive, ex-prisoner ; convicted of a crime against the High Laws. A culprit of betrayal and disloyalty to the Kights.

Fleeing was his only option. He couldn't yield. He couldn't forget what he had done and why he had done it. He could only run far away, as quickly as possible. If he hadn't met Ulgor, he woud have walked for an interminable ammount of days, weeks, months, he didn't care about time anymore. Only the survival counted. Here. Or somewhere else.

Aldarik and Ulgor had been on the road for a very long time now. The heavy rain had forced them to keep moving. They were tired, exhausted ; their muscles were stiff ; their clothes were drenched by the rain ; their eyes were blinded by the darkness of the night. Only the moonlight granted them any kind of sight through the thick foliage.

Then Ulgor discerned a beam of light between the trees. He drove the horses toward it and found a little village, where somes windows shined. Aldarik jumped down, his face a visage of pain, and pushed the inn's door while the trader worked with horses.
The atmosphere inside was strange. Smoke poured out of the windows. Some loudly laughed, played music or drank a lot. Some turned to look at him when he crossed the door, putting him ill-at-ease. He frowned and without a glance chose to sit down near the hearth in which ran a magnificent red light.

The old man, with a heavy beard, smiled to him and came closer.

«  Anything you want, friend ? » He asked Aldarik.

The fugitive hesitated for he had a bad feeling. Something disturbed him. Something he didn't know. A hand passed in his hair as he let out a tired sigh.

« Yeah. Can I have a drink, Sir ? » he replied. « I have been walking all month, I need a real bed as well. Do you have something for me ? »

He took his lightweight purse and put it on the table.

Hadrian was one of the first to return to his drink, a man drenched in rain water was nothing surprising. Besides, the man seemed to want no trouble, which wasn't exactly the best thing since the young half elf knew quite a few persons around the room were but waiting for a good reason to welcome him with a knuckle sandwich.

~~~
Jack, on his side of the bar, took the pouch of coins, counted his due and gave back the rest. He was an innkeep, aye, but not of those sniveling thieves who took a pouch of coin filled to the brim for a service worth at most fifteen quals. He went to fill a mug for the stranger but, seeing his old friend Hadrian signaling him, gave a wine glass to him instead... The ex-knight probably was trying to stop any fight from starting, if people thought he knew the man then certainly they wouldn't try to fight... After all, if you broke the nose of Jack's friend, well let's say you might only be served broken bottles.
~~~

Hadrian took both the wine glass he had and the one Jack gave the newcomer and poured them full. A good red was better if shared anyway. He gave one to the stranger, half expecting the man to look at him suspiciously, and sipped his own. A weird silence went on for almost a full minute before the halfling spoke up.

So what brings you to our little corner of paradise... Or hell, however you wish to see it. A man traveling with the looks of someone who's wounded in the middle of the rain must have quite a few interesting stories...

He didn't even look away from the wall in front of him as he was speaking, simply trying to make sure this man was not here with ill intents. Seeing Jack leave the main room from the corner of the eye, Hadrian dropped a simple comment about him readying the room before taking the guest book from under the bar with one hand like if it was totally normal for a guest to take it out and handed it over to the stranger

Just sign your name or whatever alias or surname you feel like using, it's more of a formality then anything else. No need to write the day or anything, most of the people who come through here couldn't tell the year we're in currently anyway.
